Description

DESCRIPTION: This is a New England paint decorated dovetailed sea captains chest circa 1820s. The sea captain’s chest is canvas covered on the top and retains original paint. The inside of the sea captain’s chest is also paint decorated including a hand painted mariners compass design or medallion on the inside lid of the top. The sea captain’s chest is handmade, the sides are hand dovetailed, and the bottom is attached with handmade nails (see photos). The sea captain’s chest still has its original braided becket handles, which have been repaired over time. The lock and key have gone missing and overboard. MEASUREMENTS: 39 inches wide, 18 inches high, and 15 inches deep.

Condition

Age appropriate wear and patina. One of the beckets has been repaired and re-taped overtime.
