Item Details
Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a massive fluted tin pan and eleven huge colorful Amish rag balls from Lancaster County Pennsylvania circa 1800s. When one thinks about the Amish, the horse and buggy most certainly comes to mind. The lives of this religious sect order has not changed very much over the last two hundred years and their traditions and values remain the same. The Amish are admired for their beautiful Handmade Crafts. One only needs to think of the antique Amish quilts with their bold geometric patterns and bright bold colors. These bright vivid bold mish rag balls are scraps from the clothing that the religious order would wear just: plain and simple, nothing wasted, nothing wanted. The fluted tin pan is handmade and was used among other things as a baking pan. Large Gatherings are a common event in the Amish Community and they are very well known for their wonderful home made food. The Amish still use the large scrap balls to make their braided rugs. MEASUREMENTS: Rag Balls are 7 inches wide and 19 inches round in circumference. Tin Pan is 17 inches wide, 3 inches high, and 51 inches round in circumference.
