Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a hand turned black ash collared dough bowl from New England, circa 1800s. The black ash dough bowl has flamed swirled grain lines and is slightly out of round from being hand turned. The dough bowl was handmade from a single piece of black ash, which grows in New England in a temperate zone climate. The black ash dough bowl has a large grooved incised collar and has a flat resting base! The black ash dough bowl is beehive shaped which was a common characteristic of hand turned dough bowls from the first half of the 19th century. Large wooden dough bowls were the workhorses of the early New England kitchens. The black ash dough bowl has a few berry stains from decades of use that add character and charm. MEASUREMENTS: 17 inches wide, 5 inches high, and 50 inches round in circumference
