Description
DESCRIPTION: This is a pair of semi-porcelain figurines from Staffordshire, England circa 1840s. In the early 19th century, English Staffordshire potteries began experimenting with porcelain like ware that could be cheaply mass-produced. Though the fired clay does appear somewhat vitreous, it is actually refined earthenware. By 1850 Staffordshire Potteries had reached there hey day and there were literally many small companies making unmarked and unsigned porcelain or ironstone pottery. The pair of figurines are a gentleman and a lady in a pastoral setting riding horses. The English Staffordshire figurines are unmarked. MEASUREMENTS: Each figurine is 8 inches high, 7 inches wide and 2 inches deep.
