DESCRIPTION: This is a collection of fifteen marble alabaster stone fruits in an Amish woven egg gathering wire basket circa 1800s. The stone fruit is from New England and the Amish wire basket is from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The stone fruit includes apples, pears, bananas, lemons, and even a slice of watermelon. The stone fruit still retains their original wooden stems and best coloration. You can see the detail and stone grain lines of the stone fruit. The Amish wire basket was hung in the kitchen to store eggs because of lack of refrigeration. The Amish wire basket was hand woven and has two handles secured to the sides. MEASUREMENTS: The Amish wire basket is 14 inches wide, 4 inches high not including the handles, and 42 inches round in circumference.
