DESCRIPTION: This is a collection of Shaker sewing items from New England circa 1800's. There are three small pincushions in woven sweet grass baskets and a hand turned walnut wood sewing spool thread caddy. The small pincushions are covered in different colored fabric and filled with cotton stuffing. The hand turned thread caddy has a bright orange velvet top pincushion that is decorated with a bright orange silk ribbon that secured with brass tacks. The colors have mellowed over time. The top of walnut thread caddy has a threaded post that screws into the body of the thread caddy. The bright orange silk ribbon was a traditional Shaker color and the New England Shakers were the first to produce silk in this country.MEASUREMENTS: The pincushions are 3 inches wide and 2 inches high. The walnut thread caddy is 4 inches wide and 3 inches high.
