Fine fruit still life with grapes, peaches and apricots
The present fruit still life is attributed to the Dutch painter Jacoba Maria (Troost) van Nickelen. The fruits, including grapes, peaches and apricots, are draped on a wooden table, which is set against a landscape backdrop. The soft shapes and highlights of the three-dimensional fruit are particularly striking in this fine still life.
The painting is mounted in a decorative gilt wooden frame and indistinctly signed lower left, ‘J. V. Nickelen P[…] Fecit (?)’. The frame bears the artist’s name ‘J. M. v. Nickelen’. The painting is in good overall condition, showing light framing marks and a patina of age. A small piece of wood is missing lower right. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of retouching along the edges. The frame shows some wear. The overall dimensions, framed, are 57 x 60 cm. The panel measures 37 x 38 cm.
