The present oil painting by Heinz Flockenhaus shows a winter village landscape in a glowing sunset. It most likely depicts a village in the Lower Rhine, where the painter created the most part of his paintings. The foreground shows a path surrounded by birches with a farmer's wife and other villagers in the background. Behind are depicted the houses of the village. The most striking eye-catcher is the dark red sky, which the artist has captured with broad splashes of color, and whose color nuances are reflected on the way.
The painting is signed with ‘H. Flockenhaus Ddf.’ lower right. It is mounted in a gilt wooden period frame. The condition of the painting is very good with minor framing marks and some stains to the margins. The frame shows a few small losses. The overall dimensions, including the frame, are 82 x 112 cm. The dimensions of the stretcher are 64 x 96 cm.
