This oil painting by the German animal and hunting painter Willi Lorenz is a typical work by the popular artist. It depicts three pheasants in an autumnal forest. The impasto brushwork ad loose brushwork lend the composition a dynamic character. The harmonious color scheme with nuanced shades of brown and green is particularly charming. Lorenz has created many works depicts pheasants and other fowl.
The painting is in very good condition. It is signed ‘Willi Lorenz’ lower right. The frame shows some wear. The framed work measures 53.5 x 63.5 cm, the board measures 47 x 57 cm.
Willi Lorenz (1901-1981)
The German artist Willi Lorenz studied at the Düsseldorf art academy. He specialized in animal and hunting paintings, which brought him international reputation. Willi Lorenz lived and worked in Cologne. (tfa)
