This lot includes two paintings by painter Hans Böttcher, executed in mixed media on paper. The works show abstract compositions in vigorous colors applied lightly impasto. The two unique pieces are full of spontaneity. Recognizable is the influence of informalism which had its origins in Paris in the 1940s and 50s.
The two works by Hans Böttcher are in good original condition. The paper is overall somewhat curled. Minor creases in the corners and the edges. One sheet with tiny tear at the left edge. Light studio traces. Otherwise overall of good impression. Dimensions of display: 29 x 45 cm to 33 x 54 cm. Sheet size: 61 x 43 cm and 62.5 x 44.5 cm.
Hans Böttcher (1897-1986)
Hans Böttcher was born in Berlin in 1897. He taught himself as a painter and was traveling through France and Brazil, after that he worked as a freelance artist in Berlin. His early works were stylistically committed to the late Expressionism. During the war Böttcher was forbidden to paint, many of his works were destroyed. After 1945, his style developed further and further towards abstraction, influenced by the informalism. In addition, he worked with the ‘Berliner Kulturkollektiv’, in which Max Pechstein and Otto Mueller also participated. (cru)
