Alex Katz’s large scale prints fetch up to over €41.000 at international auctions

The work on hand derives from the American artist Alex Katz and dates to 1982. A colored sugar lift aquatint describes Vincent - Katz’s only son. Katz has cut the plate to the shape of the silhouette of Vincent and his technique used serves to save the artistic thumbprint of Alex Katz.



The work is in good condition. It is signed and numbered lower left with ‘Alex Katz’ and ‘49/50’. The overall dimensions are 175.7 x 111 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 154.7 x 90 cm.



Alex Katz (b. 1927)

Alex Katz was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1927. Between the years 1946 and 49 he studied at the Cooper Union in New York, after which he studied at the renown Skowhegan School of painting and sculpture in Maine for a year. In 1954 the Roko Gallery in New York holds the first solo-exhibition of his work. In 1974 the Whitney Museum of American Art organizes a travelling exhibition of Alex Katz’s prints. Throughout the next years and up to now his work is exhibited around the globe. His work is also featured in prominent private and public collections.
