This is a stone sculpture of black Labrador by the sculptor couple Anna Kubach and Wolfgang Kubach from 2011. The stone changes in iridescences according to lighting. The book is shaped with plastic pages in a special haptic. Stone books are the focus of the sculptor couple Kubach-Wilmsen and Kubach. Throughout the course of their 40-year creativity the duo created a variety of stone newspapers, stone sheets, stone tablets and sunk down stony stacks of paper. Their most important works are probably two large stone libraries, one of 316 stone books that are located in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and the other one, the granite library La Storia della Terra, which was shown for the first time in 1992 in Rome in an exhibition at the Villa Massimo.
The stone sculpture is in very good condition. The dimensions are 14 x 10 x 6.8 cm.
Anna Kubach-Wilmsen (b. 1937) & Wolfgang Kubach (1936-2007)
The German sculptor couple studied together at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Since they graduated from university, they have been jointly working in a studio. The focus of their work emerged in 1976 as being ‘stone books’. Stone book towers of around 50 different marble and granite types from all five continents are represented today in considerable museum collections. The Fondation Kubach-Wilmsen was founded in 1998 and it opened a stone sculpture museum in Bad Münster am Stein as well as a stone sculpture park in 2010. (tm)
