Ivory Seal Cane-Birmingham hallmarks, Ca. 1890-Large single piece ivory handle fashioned in a basic T-shape and naturalistically carved to depict a sleek-bodied seal and with short and wide flat flipper limbs. Ebony shaft with a brass ferrule and a wide silver collar with engraved scrolls and the “A.G.K.” initials above an apparently later added presentation date “1925”. Quite rare in the widespread cane repertoire, this cane was obviously well cared for and survived in a privileged condition. The fine grained ivory acquired over the years a silky surface with a delicate patina which increases the appeal of the aquatic animal.-H. 4 ¼” x 3”, O.L. 36 ¾”
