405. REINHARD HEYDRICH (1904-1942). German Nazi leader and Himmler's chief lieutenant. He ran espionage and surveillance arm of the SS and helped organize the Holocaust. After being named acting governor of the Protectorate of Bo-hemia and Moravia, Heydrich was assassinated by the Czech resistance. ALS "R Heydrich" in German, 1p, small 8vo, Berlin, Mar 5, 1933. On Hotel Savoy letterhead to Kurt Daluege, head of the SS-Group East. In full, "Gruppenführer, Since Thursday I have tried without success to reach you. I have phoned approx 6 times. As I have to travel to-day, I ask you to accept my visit in this way. I hope that in about 10 days there will be an opportunity for another personal visit. With kind regards I remain..." Boldly penned and signed just prior to his appointment as Leader of the Political Department of the Munich Police. Heydrich disliked Kurt Daluege (1897-1946) so much he called him "Dummi-Dummi," [dumbbell]. Yet when Heydrich was assassinated, Daluege took his job as Deputy Protector of Bohemia.
