Description

DESCRIPTION: This is a black ash woven splint buttocks basket from New England, circa 1800s. The buttocks basket is exceptionally large and heavy in weight. There are old square nails that secure the splints upon the bottom of the buttocks basket. There is a large bentwood handle for ease of gripping and carrying. The black ash splints on the rim are close and tightly wrapped forming a beautiful God's Eye on the sides of the handle. Baskets of the quality and age are rare and hard to find in perfect condition. MEASUREMENTS: 14 inches wide, 10 inches high not including the handle and 48 inches round in circumference.

Excellent condition with age appropriate patina.
