Presentation copy inscribed on front free endpaper, "To Good friend Ben Revett, whose friendship is worth having. From Robert A. Bartlett, New York, November 20th, 1916." The recipient is quite likely Ben Stanley Revett, the "Gold Dredge King," who made a fortune in the Colorado gold fields with the introduction of his device in 1905. The book iteself is a first-hand account of one of the century's worst exploration disasters, the 1913 Karluk expedition to chart the waters north of Alaska. Arctic Bib. 1112.
