Filippi's account of his ascent of the second highest peak in both the United States and Canada, and the highest peak in the world that is so close to tidewater. The second ascent of Mt. St. Elias, a notoriously difficult task due to the typically terrible weather conditions engendered by its proximity to the ocean, was not made until 1946, by a group from the Harvard Mountaineering Club.
