Description
(25) MUSEUM QUALITY POVERTY POINT ARTIFACTS Twenty-five pieces of museum quality artifacts attributed to the Poverty Point people, excavated from Alabama mound on private land, 1980's. Little is know of this ancient culture and very few intact artifacts have been retrieved for archaeological study, making this lot a considerable rarity. From culinary specimens to jewelry, the Poverty Point people are known for their intricate etchings of animals and deft craft in both stone and earth. Lot includes a large pendant, 7.5", decorated with serpentine motif; two shorter pendants with decorative designs, 3.25" - 3.5"; ring/pendent, 1" in diameter; two abstract objects, 1.5" - 2.75"; pipe, 3.25 x 1.5", and an assortment of beads ranging from .5" - 1". Each piece is fashioned from finely fired ceramics and neatly bored.
