Ernest Blumenschein (American, 1874-1960). Watercolor and oil on paper, executed en grisaille. Signed l.r.; 19 x 13 in. (sight).
Ernest Blumenschein was born in Pittsburgh but spent his youth in Dayton, Ohio and moved to Cincinnati to attend the College of Music. After taking a course in illustration at the Cincinnati Art Academy, he changed the course of his study to art, eventually travelling to New York and then Paris, where he met Joseph Henry Sharp in 1894.
