Description
1st. - 2nd Century Roman occupied North African amphora fragment. The upper portion of a Roman ceramic amphora. The body with a pair of loop handles to either side of the spout. H: 9 1/2" W: 9". Sea salvaged with marine encrustation. This amphora is from north africa persent day tunisia and it was mainly use for the transport of garum a fish sause that the ancient roman world exported all around the know world. Ex Maryland/DC collection, acquired in the late 1950's early 1960's. The previous owner was a diplomat and collected objects on his travels.

With custom stand. Having marine encrustation.
