Description
A pair of white linen trousers, early 19th century. with narrow fall buttoning onto a waistband; together with a pair of black wool/silk breeches c.1790 with large plain buttons; a pair of plain glazed cotton breech-linings: and a pale blue faille waistcoat edged in blue and silver ribbons (4)
Condition
• Trousers – faint rust spots but nothing too visually detrimental. Linen needs re-stitching to rear waistband approx. 1cm. Crotch seam re-sewn approx. 1cm (minor), bone buttons all intact. Good condition
• Black challis breeches – lacquered wooden buttons to front fall and base of legs are intact, facetted glass buttons at knee closures are replacements as are the 2 metal buttons at the waist front. Approx. 1cm moth hole half way up centre front seam, Right front leg has 6cm and 3cm splits, splits and wear to knee closure bands around the buttons, small moth hole to rear seat area
• Silk waistcoat – poor condition, wear at underarms and badly stained, let out at side seams
• Glazed brown cotton breech linings, 1840s-50s? – soiled calico crotch lining, black silk bows added in late 19th for fancy dress, fly buttons are non-original, fob pocket has been over-sewn, darned repair at rear waist fastening
