An unusual peacock feather toque and matching tippet, probably Indian for the European market, circa 1915-18. with taxidermy specimen head to the front, lined in black organza; together with a matching feather tippet lined in shot silk with gilt metal chain clasp (2) Queen Mary popularised the wearing of this style of broad toque and was to continue to wear versions of throughout her life.
Condition
Tippet – shot purple/blue taffeta lining is fraying at edges, feather are good but they are separating at the rear neck area due to poor storage. Hat – good condition, moth damage to black silk lining but exterior is generally good
