NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY (960-1127)
This pair of bowls shares similar patterns. Featuring a flared-rim, curved wall, shallow belly, and a round base, the exteriors of the bowls are carved with linear patterns. The interior walls, on the other hand, are filled with water patterns and decorated with a fish turning into a dragon and leaping over the waves â€” a symbol of propitious blessing in Chinese culture. The whole body is glazed in green with a rich and smooth hue. The round base is sharply slanted outward but contains some kiln dreg stains. The overall design of the pattern appears complex yet orderly. These two items are truly rare antiques made by the Yaozhou Kiln.
