Description
Marie Boening Kendall (American/California, 1885-1953), "Mountain Lake Scene", oil on canvas, signed lower right, 25" x 30". Framed. A native of New York, Kendall studied briefly with the great American Impressionist William Merritt Chase (1849-1916), before moving to California in 1903. Inspired by the variety of the terrain and the vibrant hues of the local landscape, she began to concentrate on her painting, taking classes with the German born Jean Mannheim (1863-1945). Kendall became an active member of the thriving artistic community, and soon began teaching art classes of her own. She was a member of numerous art societies, including the National Association of Women Artists and the California Arts Club.
