Canvas backed chromolithograph, finished by hand. Original wood stretchers. 38x61 cm (15x24"). Printed label on lower stretcher.

In 1871, while out west visiting his friend Thomas Hill, an unusual view of a Yosemite Valley Indian Camp was created by artist Benjamin Champney, renowned founder of the White Mountain school of painters. Although extremely popular in the 1870s, very few examples have survived. Provenance: John Carpenter.
