Description

4-1/2" x 6-1/2", in Ornate Wood & Gilt Frame. Charles Burton Barber specialized in realistic, tender portraits of children with dogs. In "Special Pleader" a distressed collie appears to be begging for a reprieve for his punished playmate. An acclaimed artist in Victorian England was commissioned to paint Queen Victoria's favorite dogs for almost 25 years. A graduate of London's Academy Schools, Barber also illustrated children's books and experimented with photography.
