Framed oil on canvas laid down to board, Tonal Landscape, attributed to Ralph Stackpole (Californian 1885-1973), inscribed ''To Mrs Ross/ from Ralph Stackpole'' verso, sight: 7.5''H x 9''W. Provenance: Estate of Stella [Ross] Epperson, Orinda, CA. According to family legend, photographer Peter Stackpole lived at the end of the family's street (Taurus Avenue, Oakland, CA). It is unknown whether the work was acquired from Peter Stackpole, Ralph Stackpole, or from the Oakland Museum White Elephant Sale, which Mrs. Epperson assisted with as a member of the Oakland Museum Women's Board.
