Description
Western Greece, ca. 480 BCE. Bronze ceremonial offering dish with youth standing upright on a palmette serving as handle. His abdominal muscles are well developed, forming four distinct packs. Double volute flanked by half-palmettes and supported by the youth's hands, forms the transition to the belonging basin which is separately preserved in its entirety. 9"H (23 cm). A patera is a shallow bowl, which in Greek art of the late sixth through mid-fifth century BCE, typically has a handle in the form of a human figure. Males predominate.
