Description
*MORT KÜNSTLER REVIEW AT MOSS NECK STEIN….Stoneware, raised-relief and transfer decoration. Fredericksburg, Virginia, January 20, 1863. It was a period of calm amid the storm of war. Robert E. Lee's heralded Army of Northern Virginia was in winter camp near Virginia's Rappahannock River. Weeks before, they had turned back attack after attack. General Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson had made his Headquarters at Moss Neck, a pastoral Virginia plantation near Fredericksburg. On January 20, 1863, Lee and Jackson conducted a review of General J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry--the troops who held the line along the Rappahannock that winter. The full-wrap image is framed by a raised Victorian border. Glazed bands at the top and bottom complete the body design. An antiqued solid pewter lid with embossed Confederate and Union Flags and cannon ball thumblift are permanently attached to the handle.….
