Description
Iran, Ca 1800 to 1200 BCE. Burnished grayware on short foot, bulbous body and typical elongated bird's beak spout, small suspension loop on reverse side. Body burnished in a chevron pattern to add further interest to this fine piece. 13-1/2"W from tip of spout to edge of jar x 8-3/4"H.

Tepe Sialk (Persian: تپه سیلک‎) is a large ancient archeological site (a tepe or Persian tappeh, "hill" or "mound") in a suburb of the city of Kashan, Isfahan Province, in central Iran, close to Fin Garden. The culture that inhabited this area has been linked to the Zayandeh River Culture.

Provenance: Ex-private collection of William Dale, a career diplomat stationed in Turkey in the early 1960's, who acquired a vast collection of Greek, Roman and Near-Eastern treasures during his tenure.
