Description
Rare, early 19th century Mexican silver shrine or frame of rare form, bearing the hallmarks of Gumersindo de Cañas silversmith and the assayer's mark of Jose Joaquin Davila, Mexico City from 1819-1823. The frame also bears two other hallmarks which appear to be for Mexico and Mexico City. Height 17 ¾ Inches (44.8 cm) Width: 11 ¼ Inches (28.7 cm)
Condition
There are some losses to the silver frame, including the finial as well a flower on the right hand side, the flower opposite has been bent over. One silver nut is missing from the back. The supporting strut is old, but not original, in our opinion.
