Theodore Roosevelt Signed Presentation Copy of Message of the President of United States Communicated to the Two Houses of Congress at the Beginning of the Second Session of the Sixtieth Congress. Washington: Government Printing Office, 1908. Inscribed on the front flyleaf, in full: "To / Captain Dan T. Moore / with all good wishes / from / [signed] Theodore Roosevelt / Jan 9th 1909." 8vo, 44 pages. Appendix contains nine plate illustrations. Presented in the last months of Roosevelt's final term, the address gives the state of the Union's finances, labor and protection of wageworkers, courts, natural resources, Indian affairs, education, health, et al. Printed wraps are worn on the spine. Binding is tight; bound with staples at the left edge.
Dan Tyler Moore Sr. served as Roosevelt's military attaché and established the U.S. Army's first artillery school (the School of Fire) in 1911. He was Roosevelt's sparring partner and was responsible for impairing Roosevelt's eyesight when he caught him in the left eye during a boxing match.
