Description
John F. Kennedy and His Original Cabinet Photograph Signed. Measuring 19.75" x 16", the president and his cabinet are seen sitting around a large conference table in the Cabinet Room of the White House in this circa 1961 U.S. News & World Report photograph. Kennedy has placed his signature near the lower right corner, just under the picture. Also in the photograph are Lyndon B. Johnson, Robert F. Kennedy, J. Edward Day, Orville Freeman, Adlai Stevenson II (who was United States ambassador to the United Nations), Robert S. McNamara, Dean Rusk, Stewart Udall, C. Douglas Dillon, Arthur J. Goldberg, Luther Hodges, and Abraham Ribicoff. Each man has signed near his likeness though a few of the signatures have faded and are somewhat difficult to read. Mounted to a backing board.
This photograph once belonged to Frederick G. Dutton who, in a typed letter dated March 17, 1966, attests to the authenticity of the signatures. Dutton (1923-2005) was an attorney who served as President Kennedy's special assistant and manager of Robert F. Kennedy's presidential campaign. The letter is addressed to Phil Gibson (1888-1984), the 22nd chief justice of the California Supreme Court (from 1940 until 1964) and is included in this lot.
