Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon Signed Presidential Pardon. Measuring 5.75" x 9", this two page typescript of the original September 8, 1974, Presidential Proclamation 4311, headed "Granting Pardon to Richard Nixon / by the President of the United States of America / A Proclamation," grants a "full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he . . . has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974." This copy was signed by both men sometime in the 1980s. Very fine with bold signatures.
In his proclamation, in the immediate aftermath of the Watergate scandal, President Ford explains his rationale for not having the disgraced Nixon brought to trial. From the Collection of a Minnesota Gentleman.
