A chair in luxurious design from Panton’s 1-2-3 series, which was considered a milestone in future furniture design
Verner Panton designed the 1-2-3 system in cooperation with Fritz Hansen in 1973. The name is derived from the fact that each of the pieces was available in three different variants: without upholstery, with plain upholstery by Mira-X and in the deluxe version with quilted leather upholstery. Later all pieces had at least a simple fabric cover. Panton said about the 1-2-3 series that he wanted to design furniture that grew out of the ground and developed into something organic. Therefore much of the furniture features the characteristic disc foot instead of four legs. The series is extremely versatile and includes besides chairs also room dividers and a display stand. The present lounge chair is the model E6101 in the deluxe version with quilted leather upholstery.
It is approx. 86 cm high and 49 cm wide. It is in very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear.
Verner Panton (1926-1998)
The Danish architect and designer Verner Panton is one of the most important and influential designers of the 20th century. After studying at the Technical University in Odense and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen he worked for Arne Jacobsen. He quickly developed his own personal style. Panton preferred artificial materials and loud colors, conferring the pop art aesthetic to furniture and interior decoration, which strongly influenced our image of the sixties and seventies. His designs such as the Panton Chair and the Moon Lamp are considered as milestones of design history until the present day. (afa)
