Outstanding Art Deco pool table in noble design, a piece of history of this sport from the time of American Prohibition
This pool table from the American Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company was built around 1925. The multi-part wooden frame is veneered with walnut and adorned with rich inlays, among others bird’s eye maple with medallions and square friezes. Shape and decoration are designed in Egyptianesque style. The band parts are veneered with rosewood, decorated with nacre inlays. The bags are made of leather, the pipe system is made of cardboard tubes. The table was presumably one of eight tables which were used in world championships around 1930. Overall, the table is certainly a rare piece that tells of the history of this sport in the time of the American Prohibition.
The pool table bears the maker’s plate and an adhesive label. It is 81 cm high and measures 310 x 167 cm. It is overall in good, original condition with signs of age and wear to the veneer in some places. The bags show clearer signs of wear. Newer replacement bags are included.
