This Art Deco Desk Chair is a work made by Louis Majorelle created in his late creative period. In contrast to the well-known Art Nouveau designs with floral inlays our Desk Chair appears in a simple, elegant design that builds on the effect of the wood grain by using precious woods.

The furniture of Louis Majorelle bears the inlaid signature brand 'Majorelle Nancy'. The desk chair is in very good condition with minor signs of age and wear. Its dimensions are 86 x 60 x 60 cm.

Louis Majorelle (1859-1926)

Louis-Jean-Sylvestre Majorelle was born in Toul in 1859. He was trained by his father, who also worked as a furniture designer and manufacturer. In 1861 the family settled in Nancy. In 1877, after completing his training, Louis Majorelle moved to Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts. After the death of his father Majorelle took over the company which he successfully conducted until his death. In addition, Louis Majorelle was a founding member of the École de Nancy, an association of artists, architects and art critics, all of them representatives of Art Nouveau, including Emil Gallé among others.
