Prehistoric Polychrome Ramos Casas Grande Serpent Jar, 1280-1540 AD, as per Anne Schwermer, research department at the Naturalist Center, Smithsonian Institute, Leesburg, Va. in 2007 from photographs sent to the institute by owner. Geometric in design, showing the serpents head down on one side and up on the other side with elongated half circle eyes; the body of the serpent extending in white bands into the curved tail on each side. As found condition, with no restoration, showing only water deposits on bottom and side of bowl & one pressure crack on one side of the potter jar. Several small chips on rim of pottery jar. There are two drilled holes on each side of jar right below the rim; used to hang the bowl off the ground. Exceptional example of Prehistoric Casas Grande Pottery. Measures approx. 7''H x 8''W.
