Description
Size: 5 ft x 7 ft 3 in (1.52 m x 2.21 m) - Antique Uzbek Suzani Embroidery, Uzbekistan, Late Nineteenth Century - This antique Suzani embroidery, composed by the master craftsmen of Uzbekistan during the latter decades of the nineteenth century, is characterized by a border of abstract floral designs, and a central flower that unifies the entire piece. Perhaps the first thing about this Suzani embroidery that most will notice is its soporific color pallet of yellow-greens, golds, and browns - soft tones that serve as a contrast to the bold reds and oranges of the blossoms. Its stylized blooms, are superficially simple, but carry an attention to detail and an understanding of solid composition. Eleven stylized blossoms - ten in the border and one firmly in the center of the field - dance around this embroidery, driven by the underlying energy infused into the piece by the network of green vine scrolls that adorn the entirety of the yellow-green field.
