This is by far the finest, tabletop, bookstand or writing slope I have ever handled. Carved from fine mahogany in a mid eighteenth century rococo style, with ribbon and flower carved margins over high relief acanthus leaves and scrolls Large enough to display a folio sized open book. There are three small, inset, brass cylinders to receive a now lost book support. Tooled black leather surface joined to a softwood, 2 piece panel. There are a number of softwood, rectangular, inset pieces to protect the table that would have supported this slope.

There is a loss to the bottom mahogany of one of the low end supports,approximately 2 1/2 inches by 1/2 inch deep by 1 inch wide. 19th or early 20th century addition of 8 steel screws to resecure sides to top from underneath; may have been refinished at that time. Missing the wood strip that would have pinned into the lower edge of the slope.
