Description

Zapomni — Otomsti! [Remember — Avenge!], a photomontage poster-sized broadside, issue no. 18 of the Photographic Gazette of the Fleet Political Directorate. Published by Voyenmorizdat, Moscow, August 1942. 71.8 x 53.5 cm.

The Photographic Gazette of the Fleet Political Directorate was a sister publication of the better-known Red Army Photographic Gazette. It was produced on a regular basis, but with a lesser frequency than the Army Gazette, and had smaller runs. Each issue tended to cover a specific topic, with lead titles like “Glory to the Northern Fleet Submarine Men” and “The Volga River Flotilla in a Heroic Fight for Stalingrad.” The “Remember and Avenge” issue being offered is somewhat unusual, as it deals with German atrocities and carries no Fleet specifics.

Fleet Photo-Gazette broadsides are difficult to come by — the catalog of the Russian State Library collection lists only 13 entries.
