Description
Yasno? [Are We Clear?], a poster by Boris Efimov (Boris Friedland, 1900-2008, People’s Artist of the Soviet Union). Published by IZOGIZ, Moscow, 1953, 86 x 55.5 cm.
Militarists, and their spies and saboteurs are sternly warned that they are playing with danger. Of special interest is the cartoon figure armed with the poison bottle, an allusion to the so-called “Doctors’ plot”” uncovered in the last days of Stalin’s rule. For more on the Doctors’ plot topic, see lot 99.
One of the best known Soviet political caricaturists and poster artists, Boris Efimov started his artistic career during the Civil War. Amazingly, he was still drawing caricatures ninety years later at the age of 108.
