Description
MIDDLE DEVONIAN PERIOD (GIVETIAN): 394.5 - 389.1 million years ago. Kowala Formation - Holy Cross Mountains, Poland. - A great offering because each specimen is of the finest preservation, fully lifelike with 3D detail and lab cleaned, displayed on original Devonian shale as they might have looked when in a colony in prehistory. Coming from Eastern Europe, this is a brachiopod fossil from a site that is not usually seen in the commercial fossil market. This fantastic display specimen shows incredibly well preserved brachiopods COMPLETE WITH BOTH VALVES INTACT AND CLOSED found in the Middle Devonian Era of the Holy Cross Mountains in Poland. Interestingly enough, this happens to be the site (AND DATES BACK TO THE TIME) of the world's OLDEST TETRAPOD FOOTPRINTS ever found - fossil evidence of the first existence of four-legged vertebrates walking on land. The brachiopod species on this shale include Schelwienella sp. with other associated unidentified species embedded in the rock. Each has been carefully extracted and cleaned by us in a paleontological lab facility. They are 100% AUTHENTIC WITH NO REPAIR OR RESTORATION.  With the majority of brachiopod fossils found measuring less than .25" across, these brachiopod fossils measure 5 to 6 times that! Unusually large with impressive, rare detail. 7.8" x 4.5" overall, brachiopods vary from 1.2" - .8" across.
