Description
4th century BCE. Greek BRONZE PHALANX SPEAR HEAD from the time of Alexander the Great. Authentic Ancient Greek weapons are extremely scarce on the commercial market and are far outnumbered by later Roman examples. A RARE opportunity to acquire such a piece of profound ancient history and military accomplishment. It clearly was meant to be mounted on the end of a typical long phalanx spear pole based on its sheer enormity, far larger than typical hand-held Hoplite spears. The size and broad willow leaf design to the blade is typical for Greek spears of this period. Its coveted green mineralized patina is 100% ORIGINAL and the metal surfaces are impeccably preserved. The weapon still has its original attachment hole in the shaft where it would have been affixed to a long wooden pole. 17.7" (45 cm) in length.
