Description
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto Nazca, ca. 500 BCE - 100 BCE. Early ancient Andean feather chest panel dating prior to the emergence of the Nazca culture in southern Peru, possibly Paracas in origin. This chest panel would have been worn by only the most important member of the clan. The artisan attached hundreds of orange and blue-green feathers to a burlap fabric base. The piece was most likely part of an elaborate warrior or ceremonial costume. Professionally cleaned and mounted to museum-grade linen and then attached to stretcher frame - ready to hang or frame. Textile itself measures 13"W x 8"H
