Very simple and purely classical tea caddy of pleasantly restrained elegance
The tea caddy was made in 1783 by Fogelberg & Gilbert, featuring a simple oval shape, solely the edges adorned with a fine bead and reel decoration. Andrew Fogelberg (1727-1815), in partnership with Stephen Gilbert, made silverware, which can be distinguished by a high quality workmanship and an elegant, restrained formal language of classicism.
The tea caddy is on the underside hallmarked with the maker's mark ‘AF / SG’ for the workshop of Andrew Fogelberg & Stephen Gilbert, sterling standard mark, London town mark, date letter ‘h’ (1783). The inside of the lid also bears the sterling standard and maker’s marks (illegible).
The caddy is in very good condition with light signs of age and wear. The height measures 13 cm, the weight is approx. 452 g. A key is not enclosed. (tfa)
