‘Snowball vases’ of this kind fascinated collectors in the 19th century and have even been manufactured by various manufacturers even in France, imitating the famous models by Meissen. The present pair is a very good example from the manufactory Jacob Petit in Fontainebleau
This pair of vases was made by the French porcelain manufacturer Jacob Petit in the second half of the 19th century. The high bodies with short flared necks rest on round stepped pedestals adorned with flower festoons and female mascarons as feet. The sides are completely covered with small snowball flowers and additionally decorated with colorfully embellished three-dimensional roses and further flowers with branches and leaves. A fine decoration reminiscent of the iconic Meissen snowball vases!
The vases are marked on the base with underglaze blue crossed swords with a cross and the incised number ‘2222’. One vase is also incised with ‘C. P. F.’. Both are generally in good condition with slight signs of age. There is gold wear and some restored areas, some flowers are chipped. The height is 43.5 cm. (tfa)
