With its combination of different materials, the gilt metal applications and the elegant figure of the ‘Muse Champêtre’, the French fin de siècle pendulum clock is an impressive decoration item. The figure of Ceres was manufactured according to a design of the French sculptor Auguste Louis Moreau (1855-1919). Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, fertility and marriage, is represented with her attributes: sheaf of corn, the lyre and a cornucopia. The pendulum clock is fitted with a Japy brass movement with a one week duration and half hour strike on a bell.

The work bears the signature ‘Japy Frères Medaille D’honneur’, as well as the stamped numbers 881 and 4 4. The right side of the plinth shows the signature ‘Louis Moreau’. On the front, it reads the inscription ‘Muse Champêtre /Par Louis Moreau, Médlle d'Or’ on a plaque. The clock is in good condition, showing some wear consistent with age. The overall dimensions of the clock, with base, are approximately 67 x 42 x 19 cm. During a short-term test, it was fully functional, but long-term precision and regularity cannot be guaranteed. The clock comes with two winding keys.
