Detailed and finely manufactured miniature one of the most famous Venetian equestrian statues

This impressive bronze equestrian statue shows the Venetian Condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni (around 1400-1475) in a smaller version. Upon his death, Colleoni had bequeathed a considerable fortune to the republic of Venice on the condition that a statue of him would be erected in the city. Thus the well-known Florentine sculptor Andrea del Verrocchio (1436-1488) was commissioned to make a model, which was cast in bronze by Allessandro Leopardi in 1496. The statue measures 3.6 meters in height and is one of the most famous equestrian statues in the world. Today, it can still be admired at the Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice.



The bronze is in good condition with signs of age. There are some losses, e.g. to the reins, stirrups and boots. The right arm is a little loose. The dimensions without base are 55 x 53 x 26 cm, including the base the height measures 61 cm. (tfa)
