Matsumura Keibun (1779-1843)

Matsumura Keibun was a leading figure of the Shinto school, which was founded by his half-brother Matsumura Goshun (1752-1811). Keibun mastered the techniques of painting and was fascinated by the work of Maruyama Okyos (1733-1795). The blend of realism and decorative beauty had a great influence on him. Keibun was familiar with the scholar painting and the art theories of the Ming and the Qing dynasty and he was especially known for its bird-and-flower compositions.



Condition: The painting is in good condition with slight signs of age and wear such as small spots, thinned sections in the upper area and minimal tears at the edges. The work has a total dimension of 204.5 x 68 cm and an image size of 130.5 x 57 cm.
